Resumé

Tivoli fejrer 180 år, og jeg tog turpas for at opleve den magiske forlystelseshave midt i København. Artiklen udforsker Tivolis unikke karakter som både eksotisk og dansk, gammelt og nyt, alvorligt og sjovt. Jeg har interviewet professor Martin Zerlang, som tidligere underviste mig om Tivolis særlige position i dansk byudvikling, og han fortæller om Tivolis betydning som en “lille utopi”, da den åbnede i 1843, hvor folk fra forskellige samfundslag kunne mødes, og om parkens orientalske arkitektur og demokratiserende funktion. Artiklen viser også, hvordan Tivoli i dag stadig formår at kombinere tradition, innovation og folkelig glæde gennem forlystelser og events som Himmelskibet og Fredagsrock.
 

English Summary

Tivoli celebrates its 180th anniversary, and I visited the iconic amusement park in the heart of Copenhagen. The article explores Tivoli’s unique character—both exotic and Danish, old and new, serious and playful. I interviewed Professor Martin Zerlang, who previously taught me about Tivoli’s special role in Danish urban development, and he explains its significance as a “small utopia” when it opened in 1843, bringing people from different social classes together, as well as its oriental-inspired architecture and democratic function. The article also highlights how Tivoli today continues to blend tradition, innovation, and popular enjoyment through rides and events like Himmelskibet and Friday Rock concerts.
