Earth as a Lover

English Summary
In Earth As A Lover, I explore the radical ecosexual movement, where eroticism, art, and climate activism converge to rethink humanity’s relationship with nature. The article focuses on the exhibition Sex Ecologies at Kunsthall Trondheim, works such as Pteridophilia by Zheng Bo, and the interactive performance Ecosexual Bathhouse by the Australian group Pony Express, which invites audiences to touch plants and flowers, experiencing nature through sensual, participatory engagement.
At the heart of the piece is my interview with ecosexual pioneers Annie Sprinkle and Beth Stephens. They propose seeing the Earth not as Mother, but as Lover — reframing intimacy with the planet as a form of activism. Their work challenges conventional definitions of sexuality and asks where the body ends, suggesting that breath, touch, and imagination can participate in a larger ecological connection.
Earth As A Lover ultimately asks whether loving the Earth can move beyond metaphor — and whether pleasure, imagination, and embodied connection might offer a new and deeply human path into climate awareness.
